Room 20 Classroom Notes January 28-31

Good Week to you! Homework Club will be cancelled this week again and the 5th of February. I have been taking a workshop to boost my education as a teacher. I know that the hard copy of weekly notes comes out on Wednesday, but since I send you all an email of this every Sunday, I hope you get this information sooner. Speaking of which, if you still are not getting my emails let me know. I spoke to the Northwest Outdoor Science School secretary and we should be receiving student packets soon. The cost for non-full or partial scholarship students will be $155.00. This will be offset by any fundraising we do this year or any donations we receive. We will be doing art this week: once with Tom, Nora's dad, where we will talk architecture and on Thursday and Friday with a fifth grade parent who will be showing us how to draw tall ships from The Age of Exploration. In math, we continue with larger multiplication and division- still need those egg cartons for our fractions section rapidly approaching. everyone in the class is reading a novel in reading groups. They meet with me at least twice a week. We are also reading nonfiction and organizing our notes using a FQR- facts, questions, response using newsela.com articles. In Social Studies, we continue with our explorers reading and writing. Our final drafts of our biographies of explorers will be due this Friday, January 31st, so students must be working hard. We have done the research and now we put the information into our essays. The essays from last week were truly awesome! The students came up with wonderful family stories. This week's essay is based on whether we believe the explorers were heroes or villains and why. What do you think?
