Room 20 Classroom Notes April 22-26

This week, we visit Reed College on a full-day science extravaganza (Wednesday)! We will have several awesome chaperones (many thanks!) who will accompany us to laboratories, nuclear reactor, the college lunchroom, and the natural area around Reed Lake to compare our Johnson Creek, coastal, and now Crystal Springs field studies. We will have a guide who will give us a tour, help us pull invasive species, and plant native species. We might even find evidence of a beaver! This week, we also take our reading state test. We will finish up a practice test this week and go over the nuances of the type of questions and kinds of strategies to tackle the questions. In math, we work converting fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions. We soon enter percentages. Please talk to your child about when you need to read percentages. Students are working on a book report with a friend in class or independently. They have selected a book, are presently reading it, and will present the summary and recommendation in a way they deem best: brochure, essay, poster, digital presentation, or other. Art Night is rapidly approaching. Our works will include both realistic and abstract pieces. We will have some online homework this week, but will have paper copies for anyone who needs it because of lack of access or preference (if they prefer hard copy).
