Room 20 Classroom Notes June 2-6

Are we there yet? :) We have a week of review and finishing projects. We also have Field Day and a walking field trip. In reading, we will continue our study of the book, "Woodsrunner," a story of a thirteen year old boy in 1776. In writing, we finish and publish our literary analysis of, "A Passage to Freedom," the story of Sugihara. Please ask your child about him and the various conflicts that surrounded him during his tenure as a diplomat for Japan in Lithuania during the Second World War. He had to make a big decision as to whether he would help Jewish refugees fleeing the Nazis or do his government's bidding and not create visas for the refugees. In math, we finish our math board game unit by playing each other's games. We will also review multiplying and dividing fractions. In Social Studies, we continue our exploration of early America. Thursday is our Field Day, which is always a fun time. We will be visited by Gregory from Reed College on Monday and explore a calligraphy exhibition on Friday. If you would still like to chaperone, I need you!! Thanks to all who have stepped up and requested supporting our class for Reed, Johnson Creek on Monday the 9th, or Promotion on the 13th at 1:45. And yes, we still need volunteers! Let me know if you are available.
