Dear Room 20,
As I continue to dust off my materials and configure new classroom arrangements, I wanted to share a poem I created speaking a bit about myself. This structure will be similar to one of our first writing assignments. It is called "I Am From..."
I Am From...
I am from Ukraine, Ireland, and Poland,
I am from the kindness of strangers,
I am from Jean and John,
I am from Michigan, blue lakes and thunder-clouded spring evenings,
I am from hugs and side-splitting laughter,
I am from asking questions,
I am from reading a good book,
I am from using The Force for good,
I am from loving my kittens,
I am from a Timbers match on a hot August night,
I am from an aqua-blue morning before anyone is awake,
I am from traveling and taking chances,
I am from being scared and leaving the night-light on,
I am from running a fifty-mile race in the Mount Hood wilderness,
I am from crying because my sister died,
I am from crying because my boys were born,
I am from looking into the eyes of my dear wife,
I am from making a difference because I am a teacher.
I look forward to working and learning with all of my students and their families this year!
Sincerely,
Mr. Marchyok
